The funeral procession in the city had to use the Gwanghuimun Gate to go out of the city due to the policy that prohibited it from using the four main gates. Gwanghuimun Gate Catholic Martyr Memorial, taking up a very small area at just 39.70 sqm, is a monument that honors numerous martyrs. It is a token that connects the past, present, and future and also serves as a small chapel. The memorial was built with densely stacked red bricks to express the solidity that rivals the Gwanghuimun Gate and its walls.
