[Korean Architecture Culture Grand Prize] Private sector main prize 'Hanwha Galleria Center City Branch'

The wavy exterior and interior stand out. If you look

at the department store 'Hanwha Galleria Center City' located in Buldang-dong, Cheonan- si, Chungcheongnam-do from a distance, you will fall into the illusion that the walls of the building are waving.

It is differentiated from other general department stores from the exterior as the owner claimed to be 'the best department store in the central region' when the building was built.

Galleria Center City, which won the main prize in the private sector at this year's Korea Architecture Awards, is a work that stands out for its 'reverse conception of exterior and interior space'.

The exterior of the building forms two films by superimposing a triangular aluminum profile on the aluminum profile. The two profiles overlap to form a wave pattern, which has the effect of changing the appearance of the building depending on the viewing angle.

It is also characterized by a different appearance during the day and at night. During the day, it is a single color, but at night, a wave of colorful light spreads through the lights. A lighting fixture that is invisible from the outside projects light onto the aluminum profile to direct people's eyes towards the building. Each floor of the department store is divided into two areas. Public areas such as rest areas are placed toward the central void, and stores are placed in the peripheral area.

When you enter the interior, there is a central void ( Void ㆍopen space), and when you look up from the first floor, it gives a dynamic feeling as if a propeller is spinning.
