▴ A New Facility Integrating Production Efficiency and a Human-Centered Work Environment 

 

 

 

The Hanwha Systems Gumi New Business Facility, designed by Gansam, has been successfully completed.

The new facility was developed on a site of approximately 89,576㎡ (27,100 pyeong) in Gumi-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, with a total gross floor area of 92,663㎡. It was planned with the goal of embodying Hanwha Systems’ vision of leading the advanced defense industry for future generations. To achieve this, the overall master plan was organized around a System Axis that considers efficient factory operations and clearly defined security zones, while minimizing movement paths for personnel and equipment.

The manufacturing building adopts expandable modules and optimized production lines, allowing flexible responses to future expansions and changes. An electrical room is located on the top floor of the manufacturing building, known as the “Spine-CORE,” enabling precise monitoring of building systems. In addition, the facility is equipped with the defense industry’s largest-scale cleanroom of approximately 1,500 pyeong, along with testing laboratories and an automated system utilizing logistics robots, securing world-class quality and productivity.

The office building focuses on realizing a people-centered work environment through the implementation of an Activity-Based Working (ABW) system. The atrium hall, designed to promote employee communication and convenience, creates an open and creative atmosphere. Abundant natural daylight from skylights and extended sightlines provide a pleasant and spacious interior environment.

The façade design ensures appropriate daylighting through solar angle analysis, while a modular planning approach minimizes energy loads, resulting in an economical and efficient design.

Park Dong-hae, Senior Architect at Gansam, who led the design, stated,

“The project was designed to create synergy through seamless and effective connectivity across the entire Hanwha Systems Gumi complex,” adding, “We are very pleased to have completed a space where manufacturing productivity and employee satisfaction are harmoniously integrated.”

Meanwhile, Hanwha Systems held a completion ceremony last month attended by key stakeholders, officially marking the launch of the new business facility as a new milestone and core hub for the advanced defense industry. With the establishment of major defense equipment and new business production facilities, the project is expected to secure stable production capacity and enhance operational efficiency.
