On 10th, Jungsoo Won, former advisor of Gansam who led Korean modern architecture after liberation, died of old age at the age of 87.
Graduated from Department of Architecture, Seoul National University in 1957, the deceased married the late Mrs. Chi Soon, Korea’s first female architect, and jointly established Ilyang Architecture Office and Gansam Architecture Office(Gansam), leaving his mark on the modern architecture world.
In 1969, they had the couple architecture exhibition for the first time in Korea and since the establishment of Gansam Architecture in 1983, they have designed the Bank of Korea headquarter, Dongsung Art Center, National Assembly Speaker’s official residence, Samsung Taepyeong-ro building, and Seoul Station Severance building etc. In 1995, they won the Korean Architecture Awards for POSCO Center with high praise of ‘Award of Architecture Future’.
